Another Plein Air Study

This small plein air painting of a white silo and barn was done mainly with a painting knife.

Here's another small sketch I did on location, this one at Little Fiddler's Green.  It's less finished than the one shown in the previous post.

More than anything else I was trying to capture the color of the shadow areas of the barn and silo.  In photographs I took the same day those areas look almost black and not at all as they appear in real life - warm and cool grays filled with reflected light.

The tree was painted with thick paint using a palette knife.
