Darla R (plein air). 9x12, oil on linen panel. 2016
I spent most of the day at Seattle's Fisherman's Terminal painting on the main dock. The morning started out overcast and gray which made for ideal painting conditions. Although I originally worked on a smaller panel, I came to my senses, scraped it off and started on something larger.
The sun broke through after a couple of hours, but by that time the painting was nearly done and I was able to make the finishing touches from memory.
It turned out to be a busy pedestrian spot so I talked to many more people than I usually do. Most of the fishermen who stopped by seemed to like the painting, but I couldn't tell if they liked the artistic qualities of the painting, or the fact that it was a boat.
