North Sky (Large). 10x8, oil on linen panel. 2015.
Two scraped-off paintings in a row shakes an artist's confidence. Determined to avoid strike three, today I pulled out a small plein air study and painted a larger version of the thing.
For a fresh look, I limited the working time to about the same amount as I would if I were painting outdoors. I also tried to keep some of the brush work and edges of the original study, which turned out to be a challenge.
The view is from our back yard looking north with Camp David in the far distance. I left out a couple of pine trees on the right and a fence line to improve the composition.
