Today's paint out was at Bronze Hill Farm in Middleburg, VA. It was a near-perfect day for working outside.
As usual I started with a small 5x7 to get myself in the mood. I ghosted-in the image with raw umber (applied with a paper towel) then troweled on the paint and finished by working the edges with a large brush. This is actually the neighboring field, looking slightly into the sun.
Bronze Hill Farm No1. 5x7, oil on linen panel. 2015.
For a second painting, I moved close to the main house and decided to have a go at the landscaping in the front yard. Although I put a lot of effort into it, I didn't like the way it looked back at the studio. After keeping it around for a day I scraped it off.
