Phillips Farm IV. 20x24, oil on linen. 2014
I painted this landscape as my entry for this year's Waterford Fair art show. I worked on some of the ideas behind this painting over the course of the summer, particularly the effect of light through the trees.
The foreground is a mixture of brush and palette knife painting over a transparent block in. I painted the darks in the tree line with an opaque mixture of burnt umber, viridian and alizarin crimson, cooled with a bit of white because I won't have time to varnish the painting before the show and it will otherwise look too flat.
