Soar. 8x10, oil on linen panel. 2016
A customer gave me some great feedback on the seascape I did earlier in the week. With that in mind I revisited one of the plein air themes I'd worked on over the winter. My goal was to put more in the foreground: this started off as waves and beach but, after adding in the seagull for a bit of extra interest, I decided that it wasn't working. I scraped over the entire foreground with a painting knife and just added a smear of a lighter value over the top. That seemed to be just enough to make the whole thing work. This one's for you, Tracy.
For any artists reading this, the palette I used today was insane - manganese blue hue, burnt umber and transparent oxide yellow.
