Hannah on the Sofa. 24x30, oil on linen. 2007?
This painting of Hannah hangs in our living room. I don't recall exactly when I painted it, but I'm guessing it was 2007 or early 2008.
At this point I'd been painting in oils for a few years and created this large painting to help with marketing my portraits. It has a sort of photo-realistic look to it which was less than ideal for marketing because it meant I was constantly having to tell people that it wasn't a photograph.
Although Hannah wouldn't stay on the sofa for long periods of time (she doesn't like being stared at), some of this was painted from life. I think I painted her picture left eye 8 or 9 times before I got it close and I'm still not 100% happy with it, but the shadow side of her face and paws is some of the best painting I've done.
